3.6 billion degrees is not the point. The new 'Atomic Age' has just been born.
I'm not sober right now. But I think this is going to be huge. The media is eating up the mysterious 'hotter than the Sun' temperatures that were observed during the experiment. But the real story here is the apparent creation of new energy by the reaction. The new energy does not come from any known source. Temps jump from 400million to 3.6 billion after the intended plasma/steel-rod reaction has already climated and is all but over. No one can explain where this amazing amount of energy comes from. It's harnessed inside of a lo-tech magnetic field, how long till I get my RAFUT equipped (Random Acronym For Unnamed Technology) Toyota Prius?

Photo taken from my office on the morning of 9/11
My coworker sent me this picture he took of the World Trade Center towers on the morning of 9/11. I'm glad I didn't work/live here when this happened, but it's pretty scary just how close my office is to ground zero. I wonder how fast I could run down 49 flights of stairs if the plane's had veered left or right 5 degrees.
I just snapped THIS picture of the same view today with my cameraphone. Pretty crazy huh?

UK Rail Travel Has its Perks

Time Lapse in Times Square
We've said it before and we'll say it again: we love time-lapse videos. There's something so pleasing about watching little cars and people zoom by in starts and fits, against a techno-soundtrack. [Runner up for video of the day: this girl in Brooklyn getting freaky to Iggy Pop's "The Passenger". Hotness!]
Ain't Nothin' But a House Party
Date: Friday, March 10th
Time: 10:00pm - 6:00am
Location: Union Square Ballroom (27 Union Square West between 15th and 16th)
Cost: Free with flyer before midnight, $10 after with flyer
Summary: An old school NYC House throw down with some of the original DJs on the scene. This place goes late and gets sweaty.
House party is right. In that deep, funky, old school NYC house that keeps you dancing all night. This is one of the best spots to get down on the weekend without the mess, hassle, and door charge of the city's larger venues (and better music). Marlon D and Jellybean Benittez - who have been bringing deep house to NYC since the Paradise Garage and Studio 54 days - continue their aptly titled monthly. This monthly packs the Union Square Ballroom with people sweating from the rafters until sunrise.

The Simpsons are ALIVE! ALIVE!
OK, so we know this has nothing to do with New York. And we already wasted our "Gothamist Random Video of the Day" tag on that helicopter crash. But it's Sunday, and nice out, and we've been distracted by the idea of the Times telling us that Bushwick is the new black. So yeah, check this live-action British Promo for that classic of American animated television: The Simpsons.
Those wacky Brits!
